Founded in 2009 by Daishawn Franklin and Crystal Bailey, WALK was created to add to the emerging fashion industry in their hometown of Detroit. WALK averages over 500 women to each casting call and over 2,000 fashion forward show attendees from the metro Detroit area and around the country each year.

Sew in Detroit (Sewing Classes)

"SEW IN DETROIT" Register now at

The Beginner Learn how to use the machine and all the functions of the machine. Learn how to take measurements and read and use patterns. Create a basic pajama project. Sewing machines are provided but recommended to bring your own (better to get familiar with own machine).

Session 1 | October 7th | noon - 1:15pm Sewing Skills Assessment

Session 2 | October 14th | noon - 1:15pm Review of last weeks session, Discuss materials/supplies and measurements, take measurements and learn how to read and find patterns for sewing projects

Session 3 | October 21st | noon - 1:15pm Class sewing project begins...Cut pattern and pin design Session

Session 4 | October 28th | noon - 1:15pm Sew and finish pajama pants

Session 5 | November 4th | noon - 1:15pm Sew and finish pajama pants

Your Instructor Volencia Simpson Your instructor is an accomplished educated seamstress with over 10 years of sewing experience. Volencia Simpson owner of Fiercely Made which has been in business for 3 years making clothes for mainly women and children. Volencia is head seamstress for companies like BabyCrush and Lou Prezi. She started off modeling for DNA, John Casablanca, and Alpha Modeling Group, however, her passion is in sewing. Volencia in her 2nd year as an educator is now passionate about providing a platform for future designers.


Walk Fashion Academy, Inc. is a 501-C3 non-profit organization The mission of Walk Fashion Academy, Inc. is to educate, train and inspire people in the fashion and arts community. The purpose of Walk Fashion Show Academy, Inc. is to inspire growth and creativity through fashion by providing education, sewing, beauty techniques and training for individuals to improve their skill and self-image for fashion and runway modeling.
